2013 Governor’s Recognition Scholarship
What: The Governor's Recognition Scholarship 500-word essay contest, hosted by the Florida Prepaid College Foundation, is accepting essays and applications for a 2+2 Tuition and Local Fee Plan scholarship from the Florida Prepaid College Foundation.
When: Applications/essays will be accepted between October 14th and October 25th, 2013. All entries must be post-marked by October 25th.
What Do I Need to Do: Answer the essay prompt "Choose one former Governor of Florida and describe his most significant impact on the Sunshine State and your life today."
Students must also complete the student entry form with parental/legal guardian consent. Students will be asked to submit a letter of recommendation from an educator or professional, write a 200-250 word personal essay on why they believe they are deserving of the scholarship and a short summary of how they have contributed to their community over the last 6 months.
Who is Eligible: Seventh and eighth grade students in Bay, Brevard, Escambia, Gulf, Highlands, Lee, Levy, Polk, St. Johns, and Suwannee counties can enter to win the Florida Prepaid College Foundation Scholarship if they qualify for the Foundation's Stanley Tate Project STARS* program.
* For purposes of this essay contest, a student is STARS eligible if his or her family qualifies for the free or reduced lunch program.
The winning student and parent guardian will need to sign an agreement with the Florida Prepaid College Foundation agreeing to abide by STARS criteria. Student must remain crime-free and drug-free, be able to prove Florida residency and possess a valid Social Security Number.
